Ginger oil is not often used these days, although its internal anti-inflammatory action is excellent against osteoarthritis and rheumatism.
The essential warming property of gingerol, the active ingredient of ginger root, makes it ideal for digestive support. The essential oil can be topically applied in highly diluted form over the abdomen in a compress.
The ginger root is known for over 6000 years in India and China to treat stomach ailments, diarrhea and qualms but widely spread because of its culinary use. Actually, several double blind studies with placebo have established the effectiveness of ginger in the treating of pregnancy and post-operatory nausea. The E-Commision for phytotherapy recognizes the medical use of the ginger root to treat digestive disorders and to prevent nausea caused by travelling.
