R48 Pulmonary diseases
Indications
Pulmonary weakness; the initial appearance of tuberculosis (primary or secondary). Complementary remedy for: bronchial asthma, chronic pulmonary catarrh, cough as a result of excessive smoking; the period of convalescence following a cold or flu. Complementary or alternative remedy in all catarrhal affections of the upper respiratory tract. Weakness and pain between the scapulae; fatigue; nocturnal perspiration.
R48 focus of action is mainly on constitutional weakness, especially those predisposed to weakness of the lungs, and in pre-tuberculous conditions causing fatigue. R48 may be administered in cases of tuberculosis, as a tonic to the system.
Mode of action
Acidum picricum: Mental dullness, weakness, confusion; aggravation from mental exertion; burning pains in thoracic spine.
Bryonia: Extreme dryness and irritation of the respiratory mucosa accompanied by an intense thirst, worse with motion, better lying on the painful side. Dry, hard, painful cough; pleuritis, pleural congestion; tracheitis, bronchitis.
China: Weakness between the scapulae. General tonic after loss of vital fluids and for states of exhaustion and weakness.
Dulcamara: General aggravation from damp or cold, damp weather; conditions which come on in cold, damp weather; sensation of pressure and heaviness in the shoulders; intercostal neuralgia; bronchitis; pneumonia.
Ferrum phosphoricum: Cough with purulent expectoration, or a dry spasmodic cough; hemoptysis; pneumonia; pleurisy; conditions accompanied by a high fever.
Kalium carbonicum: Difficult respiration, worse lying flat, better sitting upright; spasmodic cough; pertussis; pneumonia, often left-sided.
Lycopodium: Asthma; pneumonia; bronchiolitis; bronchitis. Fundamental constitutional remedy.
Phosphorus: Recurring respiratory infections, colds go to the chest quickly; lingering coughs; pneumonia; pulmonary tuberculosis; chronic bronchitis; asthma; emphysema.
Sepia: Effects the constitution, general tonic. Dyspnea, pain and pressure in the chest; pertussis; nocturnal cough; cough worse at night, worse lying.
Silicea: Effective in inflammatory conditions of the lungs; tuberculosis; empyema; bronchitis; cough, worse cold drinks, better warm drinks.

Clinical experience

Duration of treatment may be up to 6 weeks.

Acute or chronic remedy particularly indicated if there is a constitutional weakness of the lungs.
Ingredients
Acidum picrinicum D8 1 g, Bryonia D12 1 g, China D6 1 g, Dulcamara D30 1 g, Ferrum phosphoricum D12 1 g, Kalium carbonicum D6 1 g, Lycopodium D30 1 g, Phosphorus D30 1 g, Sepia D6 1 g, Silicea D30 1 g.
Non-medicinal ingredients: ethanol, purified water.
Dosage
Adults and children (ages 12 and up) 5-10 drops 1-3 times daily in a little water or undiluted or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
