Traditionally used in Herbal Medicine to help to support liver function and help relieve digestive disorders (dyspepsia).
Mode of action:
ARTICHOKE (Cynara scolymus) – Family: Asteraceae
Artichoke is a bitter plant with powerful properties. It stimulates biliary and digestive secretions. It aids in eliminating toxins from the liver and protects it from infections. It is effective for nausea, bloating, indigestion and all biliary affections. It also helps to regulate cholesterol levels.
DANDELION (Taraxacum officinalis) – Family: Asteraceae
Dandelion is one of the well-known bitter plants. It stimulates production and elimination of bile, thus giving a mild laxative effect. It aids to detoxify and eliminate infectious toxins from organisms intoxicated by a variety of pollutants. This herb also helps to prevent the formation of calculi.
MILK THISTLE (Silybum marianum) – Family: Asteraceae
Silybum marianum stimulates biliary secretions, protects the liver from hepatitis, jaundice, cirrhosis (caused by alcohol and drugs) and against hepatotoxins. It stimulates and regenerates hepatic tissue. It can alleviate the noxious side effects of chemotherapy.
BLESSED THISTLE (Cnicus benedictus) – Family: Asteraceae
It is a bitter tonic that stimulates gastric, intestinal and biliary secretions. ItÕs a plant known to relieve digestive problems: constipation, flatulence, chronic headaches (of hepatic origin), along with any other hepato-biliary troubles. Its anti-inflammatory action aids in decongesting the biliary tracts.
LEMON BALM (Melissa officinalis) – Family: Lamiaceae
Melissa officinalis is stomachic (promote stomach functions), carminative (relieve abdominal distension and flatulence) and antispasmodic (colic, distension). It has antacid properties and calms nervous digestion.
CATNIP (Nepeta cataria) – Family: Lamiaceae
Nepeta cataria is appetitive (stimulates the appetite) and carminative (expelling gas). It facilitates digestion and helps with colic. It calms nervous digestion and is effective for headaches of biliary origin.
